Kamakshi association was established in 2004 with the intention to provide help and assistance for the underprivileged children, single mothers and abused children. Prior to the formal establishment, this association with a few members have managed to serve the public in an ad-hoc basis. Numerous activities had been conducted to raise the standard of education and health in the rural areas. The association has been providing school books, uniforms, shoes, bags and paying the school fees for poor children. The association also conducted free medical screenings, medical consultations, and health education for the underprivileged rural people.
At present, the association has more than 100 active members from various professions such as doctors, engineers, teachers etc, who are very committed, dedicated and have the passion to serve the community. With these various professional expertise, the association is now able to serve the community more effectively. The association has started the Slow Learning Program, Food Supplementation For Rural School Children and Pre-School Educational Program. The association has started the Kamakshi Child Home (an orphanage) in Kulim housing 10 – 20 children. The association is also helping single mothers and abused children. Besides that it has conducted many medical camps in various rural areas in the Kulim district.
ORGANISATION
KAMAKSHI WELFARE AND SOCIAL ASSOCIATION
Formally established in 2004 the Kamakshi Welfare and Social Association is a welfare, social and educational society formed with the main aim to serve the poor and needy. This organisation however has been in existence and functioning since 1960s, on an ad-hoc basis. It is a voluntary, non-profitable, service orientated association with particular thrust in the educational and welfare aspects of social service.
CHILD, MALAYSIA
CHILD, Malaysia is a voluntary, non-profit, service orientated organisation established in 1984. It is currently engaged in providing educational, health and welfare assistance to the less privileged children from the urban squatter areas in Malaysia. The government recognises the organisation as a welfare-based NGO and has been granted tax exemption status for all donations received. The Ministry of Education has even granted it permission to supervise pre-school classes in Tamil Schools in the country, besides supporting its efforts to improve the overall performance of rural school children.
