SLOW LEARNING PROGRAM

There is an increasing number of students who are lagging in the basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic (3R’s). This increasing phenomena, if not addressed promptly will lead to more dropouts when they reach adolescence. This phenomenon is particularly worse in the rural schools. There are various contributing factors ; too many students in a class, lack of special rehabilitation classes, inadequate number of teachers and children from broken families.

The association has employed and paid retired teachers to teach slow learners in the selected rural schools on weekends. Twenty students were selected from standard 4 ,5 and 6 from each school . They were taught for 4 hours a week, in small groups in the respective school. Break fast is also provided for them. These children are not only taught the basic 3R’s but are also instilled with social skills, social mores and spiritual values.

KAMAKSHI CHILD HOME (ORPHANAGE)

The Kamakshi Child Home has been established to house the increasing number of orphans, children from broken families and children from underprivileged homes. The home is temporarily operating from No 150, Taman Tiram, Kulim with 10 children in collaboration with CCI Foundation, Kuala Lumpur.

We accommodate them and provide all the basic necessities and all expense paid schooling and tuition opportunities. We also provide counseling, motivation and career guidance. We encourage their parents to visit their children in the home to foster the parental-child bonding. We also encourage the members of the association to be foster parents and mentors for these unfortunate children The association has employed one administrator( honorary) , one warden and a cook to supervise and maintain the home.

SHELTER FOR ABUSED CHILDREN AND SINGLE MOTHERS

To help the abused children and single mothers, we have set up a temporary shelter in Taman Bayam to provide accommodation, food, guidance and assistance. We have also set up businesses in order to create more job opportunities for them. This will help and encourage them to venture into small businesses and become financially stable and independent.
